Content Aggregation - Example: Author in the Room

One of the things I would be looking to our second life space to accomplish for us is a place with a simple user interface to consolidates synchronous and asynchronous activities. For example, a list of offerings like Author in a Room could be displayed. If the user wants to attend, they could click on the registration and it drops onto their personal calendar.

As learning specialists, we would know the competency requirements and learning needs of our users, find and setup access to the the conference but they attend it by coming back to second life. We handle the logistics behind the scenes of registering, conference call, etc. The change that would mean for our group as learning professionals is to translate our skills as content creators and content aggregators in the real world to accomplishing those same tasks in the virtual world of second life.

This is a simple way to start with our virtual conference center and gives us a chance to learn more about how to pull people to the new environment - we let good content created or being delivered by others that will be of interest to our audiences drive the change. (Note: I know this particular example is not peds related, just used it to give you an idea of the type of content we could aggregate). We start as virtual aggregators, and in the meantime, go to work to develop out more complex content that is unique to us and our expertise.
