Pulse!!: The Virtual Clinical Lab

This is a very interesting project in field test phase right now at the National Naval Medical Center and Johns Hopkins using high fidelity simulation for clinical teaching. A snippet on Pulse!! with links below including a great presentation by Dr Johnson with useful information on virtual learning and healthcare including some thought provoking slides on digital natives (aka, the pediatric patient base)
"Pulse!! is an interactive virtual environment simulating operational health-care facilities, procedures and systems. The game-based platform is being designed as a cognitive, experiential learning tool for military and civilian health-care providers. This state-of-the-art simulator employs cutting-edge technologies to create a realistic, complex, high-fidelity virtual health-care lab."

This,of course, is not second life but does give you a sense of how realistic virtual learning can be as well as the useful information in the powerpoint presentation.
