In August of 2007, Cisco launched their own virtual world with some of the features of a place like Second Life but not all of them. Prior to this launch, Cisco had a presence in Second Life to serve similar functions and hosted event there. This article discusses the launch of their proprietary world and provides detail on the thinking of what was in and out, purpose and target audience, time to build and future direction. A nice perspective to help us think through next steps. Even though they are a technology enterprise and the site appears to be mostly about sales, the questions and issues are similar to ours.
